The Full Story

The Caloundra Film Festival began in 2013 with the aim of providing a platform for local, Australian and student filmmakers to show their work. The Festival also focuses on screening foreign language and art-house films in recognition of the growing cultural diversity of the Sunshine Coast region. In 2017 the Festival commenced an initiative of monthly foreign language film screenings that have proven to be very popular. The Sunshine Coast is now able to experience quality films on the big screen that would traditionally only have been available in the major capital cities.

The Festival not only showcases the best of local and world cinema, we also aim to encourage the brightest and youngest of our film makers and provide pathways for them to fulfill their ambitions. The Student Showcase highlights one of curatorial ambitions for the Festival. The event provides a non-competitive platform for media students in this region to showcase their works in front of their teachers and peers. The Student Showcase continues to grow each year and the technology and quality of the work is inspiring. The dedicated film departments of participating schools look forward to showing their work to a packed audience at The Events Centre.

With the help of all our amazing sponsors and partners, the Caloundra Film Festival continues grow in breadth and scope each year. We will continue in our aim to become a leading film festival and regional event. It is our wish to connect with sponsors, partners, filmmakers, local and international visitors and to engage with the communities in our region to deliver a experience that demonstrates how rich and varied both the film culture and this part of the world can be.

It’s a perfect time to get on board with an exciting growth in film and arts culture.
