Grandfathers is a multi layered film with narrtive threads across, family, friendships, relevance, love and loyalty. The three central characters, and their respective families work it out with an idealised workplace as the backdrop.
59-year-old Isidro Hernández (Carlos Iglesias) has gone two years without receiving any job offers, so, he decides to pull up the socks and start his own business. Not so easy in a youth orientated environment. In China, over 35 is considered over the hill in some tech areas!
Soon enough with the help of friends Arturo (Roberto Álvarez), a successful writer of romantic novels, and Desiderio ( Rosa’s Wedding), a retiree who wants to be a grandfather, they will embark on an ambitious project: setting up a kindergarten.
To develop it, the three friends enter a coworking space, full of young people, where they will have to bring out the entrepreneur within them to get their venture off the ground.
Grandfathers is much more than an 'affectionate comedy'. It proves that one is never too old to start something new, has many narrative threads to it and is enjoyable from start to finish.....the finish being a final scene about truisms in life after the credits have rolled.
