A beautifully delicate and nuanced film, My Favourite Cake, co-written and directed by Iranian filmmakers Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha, explores themes of love, regret and second chances with nuance and grace. It’s set against the backdrop of a country with strict rules and restrictions, especially when it comes to the rights and freedoms of women, but for all its people.


It's also a film that explores ageism, desire and the need for intimacy with a sense of humour that is irresistible. Lili Farhadpouri is wonderful as Mahin, a 70 year old woman living in a house that is too big for her, but which she can't leave as its 'not documented' and could be taken over by the state.
