Three human stories set in 1908, 1972 and 2022 respectively play out in a German university town where a massive Ginkgo tree has stood throughout and which becomes an experiment itself. Each individual is transformed by the quiet, enduring mysterious power of nature, bringing the audience closer to what it means to be human and offering a deeper understanding of our silent friends.


Central to each of the three scenarios in the film is a majestic ginkgo tree, located in the heart of a botanical garden at the university. Over a century, this “silent witness” has observed the quiet rhythms of transformation across three lifetimes.
