The Blue Caftan film trailer HERE
An internation co-production between France, Morocco, Belguim and Denmark it was Morocco's official entry for Best International Feature at the Oscars.
This beautiful film must have raised some eyebrows in the Middle East. Director Maryam Touzani's drama is as layered as the Caftans that Halim makes in traditional fashion in one of Morocco's oldest Medinas.
In order to keep up with the commands of their demanding customers, they hire Youssef who wants to learn the craft. Slowly Mina realizes how much her husband is moved by the presence of the young man. Yet Mina and Halim are also bound by a strong love.
It moves in mysterious ways and is one of the films of the year. It was long listed for Best International Film at the Oscars. Selected for Cannes.
The acting was superb, and the story wonderfully poignant. Patient and carefully crafted, it's about the complexities of love and craft. One of the best films of 2022." Film Inquiry
"Whenever you think you know where Maryam Touzani’s entrancing drama “The Blue Caftan” is going, she blindsides you with a fierce emotional wallop." Roger Ebert. Major Film Critic.
"Touzani has woven together a sensitive, graceful, touching work about repression, connection and acceptance. All three actors are extraordinary." Edge Media Network
