This film is an excellent WW2 drama which tells the story of two Jewish brothers, the Schonhaus's who are living on borrowed time in Berlin in 1942.  Reduced to one room in their apartment, their possessions owned by the state, parents deported they are soon to lose it all.

One brother,  Cioma has a more essential skill, he can forge documents. Can he forge the one he needs to save their lives? He needs two Whermacht identity papers to get them to Switzerland.

Incredible true story.

All around, people are edgy, identities are checked and people are arrested. Boms are dropping and the the mood darkens after the defeat at Stalingrad and 42 turns to 43. Even so Cioma is brazen and still takes enormous risks.

Directed and written by Maggie Peren, The Forger is based on the true story Samson “Cioma” Schönhaus, a Jewish graphic artist who forged documents to help others escape the Nazis while at the same time he needed 2 very hard to come by essential Whermact ID papers to forge so he can save save his own life and that of his brother.

Louis Hofmann embodies Schönhaus’ indomitable optimism and determination, even in the darkest moments, to focus on the light.

"Engaging and compelling." Screen Daily.

" Louis Hoffman embodies his character with a verve that smashes the screen." La Revue De Cinema
