Adapted from the book of the same name.

In 1935, Antoni Benaiges is hired as a teacher in a small, isolated village in Burgos, Spain. There, he establishes a great rapport with his students, a group of young boys and girls between the ages of six and twelve.  As he broadens their world he ignores the warning signs from their more conservative parents and the town priest.  When he finds out his students have never seen the sea, he  promises to take them there.

As these new horizons beckon, the brewings of the civil war are unmistakable yet Antoni ignores them.

75 years later, the granddaughter of one of those students  who has set out in search of her grandfather comes across the wonderful story of his teacher and the tale hidden behind a promise that was never fulfilled. They were all swept up in the course of history.

Based on the incredible true story of Antoni Benaiges, a Catalan teacher who brought progressive teaching methods from France to the rural village, this emotional drama traverses the past and present and shines new light on the power of education, memory and history.
